"Above the fold" refers to the location of an important news story on the top half of the front page of a newspaper or on the part of a web page that is visible on screen without scrolling. Let’s think about it, we pick up the newspaper, or open up a news focused web page, and the 1st thing we do is scan the top headlines to determine what stories are of interest to us.
